  • Help Central Connections Raise Funds for 3 Vans

    June 21, 2018
Helping people get to where they want and need to be is a high priority for Transportation Services at Central Connections, the senior center in Middletown.
To continue services for its growing clientele and to ease wear and tear on existing vehicles, Central Connections applied for and received a capital grant this spring for three new vans under the provision of 49 USC Section 5310 of the Federal Transit Act. The grant stipulates that Central Connections raise matching funds of $27,000 to receive the vehicles. Central Connections is asking the greater Middletown community to help raise the matching funds.
Each Monday through Friday, Central Connections’ small fleet of vans transports to medical and nonmedical destinations more than 400 older adults and disabled within Middletown, Monroe, Trenton, West Middletown, and Franklin areas. The medical and nonmedical trips include transport to medical appointments, dialysis treatments, pharmacies, grocery stores, banks, and other shopping and entertainment destinations.
Central Connections transports such clients as:

    • Willie, 72, who no longer drives, has Type 2 diabetes, and requires kidney dialysis three days a week.
    • Betty, 82, a Central Connections member and faithful volunteer, who uses a walker and relies on Transportation Services to get to and from the senior center, her “home away from home.”
    • Sharon, 68, a recent retiree who fell in her home, broke a foot, and needs temporary transport until she can drive again.
