Dream It Do It OKI and I Made It in NKY seeks to shape the image of manufacturing in the eyes of students, parents, educators and the general public, so that manufacturers can attract the talent they need to grow by facilitating the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Video Contest.
Dream It Do It's, "What's So Cool About Manufacturing" Video Contest is a program designed by employers and educators to help improve the image of manufacturing as a career choice with the objective of recruiting more young people to career and technical educational schools that feed talent to the manufacturing industry.
Teams of middle school students, led by teacher coaches, are provided with video equipment and instructional materials and matched with local manufacturers. Each team had four months to create a short video profile of partner companies, and the career opportunities they offer to answer the question, "What's So Cool About Manufacturing." The entries will be judged by an expert panel and public vote—American Idol style hosted on the Dream It Do It OKI Website. Award categories include Outstanding Program, Outstanding Editing, Outstanding Creativity, Outstanding Cool, Outstanding Team Spirit, Outstanding Educational Value, Outstanding Videography and the highly coveted Viewer’s Choice Award.
The 2019 project includes seven teams from Ohio and eight from Northern Kentucky. The following middle school teams and their partner manufacturers submitted videos for the 2019 contest;
