  • Premier Health 2020 African American Wellness Walk

    July 24, 2020

Premier Health is excited to announce the 20th anniversary of the Annual African American Wellness Walk will be held as a two-week virtual walk/run event from August 3 to August 14, 2020.

The African American Wellness Walk (AAWW) was established in 2000 and addresses the underlying health conditions that plague our families and friends in minority communities.

This year, Premier Health is encouraging the community to take part in the walk's
Super Social Justice Challenge by walking or running 8.46 miles to honor the memory of George Floyd. Those who complete the Super Social Justice Challenge will receive a shout-out during the Post-Race Virtual Party.

The Post-Race Virtual Party will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2020, from 1 to 2:15 p.m. A Zoom link for the Post-Race Virtual Party will be emailed to all registrants/participants.

This year marks a major milestone – the 20th anniversary of the African American Wellness Walk. The walk has typically been held during celebration of Juneteenth, a commemorative day representing the freedom of African Americans from slavery. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the walk was postponed until August 2020 and re-imagined as a virtual walk.

Participation in the walk is free, but donations are accepted and will benefit the Mahogany's Child Fund, managed by Miami Valley Hospital Foundation. All proceeds will go toward the donation of COVID Kits to churches and community centers in East and West Dayton to distribute to people in need. Each kit will contain: a thermometer, masks, hand sanitizers, paper towels, and toiletries.
